Detroit Public Radio WDET-FM (101.9) has chosen Tim Hygh as its new station manager, according to interim general manager Allen Mazurek.
WDET has been seeking a new general manager since Michael Coleman ended his controversial term by abruptly resigning in December 2006.
The new setup will have Mazurek continuing as interim general manager. "As far as I'm concerned, this is what I'm being asked to do," he said.
Hygh was director of regional sales for WJR-AM (760) from 1999 to 2005, and until this summer was general manager of the Michigan Talk Network and WJIM in Lansing.
"Tim is starting on Monday," Mazurek confirmed.
Monday is a big day for WDET in many ways; it will also be former staffer Craig Fahle's first day in front of the microphone as permanent host of the station's daily news show "Detroit Today" from 10 a.m. to noon.
WDET's all-music HD-2 channel, available only to those who have HD radios, will also launch Monday or thereabouts; it might be this weekend or, if there are technical problems, it could be delayed a day or two later, but Monday is the goal.
