Question

Answer

I would like to help bring Democracy Now to Michigan. Where do I start?

Volunteer!
Make a phone call AND send a letter AND send an email AND send a fax to the contact person(s) at the station nearest you (See the "Local Communities" links on the left of this web site.). Let them know that you would like Democracy Now to be broadcast regularly on their station.

If you are going to contact a MI-PBS or MI Public Radio station (See the smiliey links on the right of this web site.), let them know your pledge dollars depend on whether or not DN airs regularly.

If you're going to contact WOW or Comcast, let them know your new or continued subscription to their service depends on them adding the "Free Speech TV" channel or the "Link TV" channel (both of which carry Democracy Now) to the channel lineup of their basic packages (not just to their more expensive "premium channel" packages).

If every MI volunteer did this once a week, every week, then our TV and radio stations would HAVE to pay attention.

Also, create an account for yourself at this web site. It's free, and registered users can post comments in their community's forums, discuss ideas and solutions with other organizers, and are automatically added to the Democracy Now volunteers emailing list.

Finally, help spread the word about Democracy Now.

Hey, I can't find my Local Community in the list at the left. Can I add/start my own local DN campaign?

Yes!
You provide the energy, and we'll provide the web space.

Visit this link "Bring DN! to Your Community" and contact:

Let her know the Michigan city/community that you live in and to which local radio or tv/public access station you would like to help bring Democracy Now.

Don't forget to cc: volunteer@democracynowMICHIGAN.org, so that your Local Community can be added to this web site.

What's that "IRC Chat about this" icon that I see at the bottom right of each news story?

If you have an "Internet Relay Chat" client installed on your computer, that link will take you to a chatroom that is dedicated to that particular news story. If anyone else is in that particular chatroom, you will be able to text-chat with them. It's useful for those really HOT news stories that you just GOTTA talk to someone else about.

For a list of IRC clients that you can install, visit http://www.ircreviews.org/clients/. If you use Windows, we recommend the mIRC client, available at http://www.mirc.com/index.html.

Of course, if you use the Opera browser instead of Internet Explorer, you'll discover that it comes with it's own built-in IRC client. To download the Opera browser, visit http://www.opera.com/. It is available for FREE.
