DN! Detroit/Windsor Campaign
The Detroit Public Television Winter 2006 Membership Drive is coming November 25 through December 16. It offers many opportunities for Michigan's Democracy Now volunteers to become involved--including answering pledge phones on TV, providing hospitality, and processing pledge mailings.

Let's give DPTV one more reason to add Democracy Now to their daily schedule by showing our commitment to public television.

Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts are available. Sign up using their "Sign up today!" link at: http://pbsmail.org/ct/pd3J19s1Lmhp/volunteer

Note: All of the "on air" fundraisers will be held at the studios in New Center (Detroit). Directions to the New Center Studios can be found at: http://www.dptv.org/aboutus/findus.shtml

While corporate America deluged the Federal Communications Commission today with comments on the media ownership docket, a small battalion of media reform groups publicized new research and public filings that urge the FCC not to scotch its broadcast ownership rules.

"These studies make clear that media consolidation does not correlate with better, more local or more diverse media content," former FCC Commissioner Gloria Tristani told reporters at a press conference held in Washington, D.C. "To the contrary, they strongly suggest that media ownership rules should be tightened not relaxed."

ACLU Calls Ruling, First of its Kind, a Rebuke to Abuse of Presidential Power

DETROIT -- In an American Civil Liberties Union case, a federal court today ruled that the Bush administration’s program to monitor the phone calls and e-mails of Americans without warrants is unconstitutional and must be stopped. This is the first ruling by a federal court to strike down the controversial National Security Agency surveillance program.
