Major telecommunications companies and cable companies, while in competition with each other, are united in their efforts to do away with local franchise commitments - they are trying to pass Federal legislation, but, as this article indicates, are also working state legislatures. The Texas public has already lost. Michigan is now facing a battle - contact your state legislator and tell them to oppose any telco/cable sponsored legislation that will harm local franchising.

Have your city/town/county council pass a resolution supporting local franchising authority.

Greater Lansing organizers Tom Rico and Lynda Belisle have taken the first step in campaigning to bring Democracy Now! to Lansing Area broadcasting.
